Position Summary

While working as the Prepress Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Prepress Department and a team of Prepress Technicians responsible for formatting and proofing text and images submitted by designers and clients into finished pages that can be printed. Additionally, you will also oversee customer ineraction to identify possible mistakes or changes in a design. The person in this position assists with performing the operational functions of the department, ensuring that jobs are built appropriately and efficiently in preparation for printing. The Prepress Manager will be responsible for ensuring their team is effectively and efficiently completing the below responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Join the management team to assist in company initiatives, participate in strategic restructure planning, software implementation and effective delivery of internal communication
  • Scheduling prepress team members time/attendance, coverage and evaluating performance
  • Strategic planning/scheduling prepress workload for maximum throughput and accuracy
  • Driving workload to output scheduling and manage reporting
  • Hold team accountable for operating procedures and cultural standards
  • Document standard layout procedures for optimized output for each process
  • Ownership of all prepress software, workflow set-up and utilization
  • Evaluating and eliminating prepress errors with active discussions/debriefs
  • File creation, file naming and plating SOPs
  • Oversee regular operation and maintenance of the Epson and DPM units
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize process and improve communication
  • Knowledgeable to assist with engineering and troubleshooting the technically challenged prepress projects
  • Pick up workload to actively assist when needed
  • Assist/learn output scheduling to better support that process as needed

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and/or two years related experience in graphic arts; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents and customer files and specifications.

Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills

Performing this job successfully requires that an individual have a solid understanding of computers, email, data entry, and graphic arts software a familiarity with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat/Pitstop, QuarkXPress, Publisher, Word, Excel, and PrintShop Mail is preferred

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must possess a working knowledge of PDF files
  • Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, etc.
  • Ability to prepare job tickets and layouts
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of printing and graphics processes
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision
  • Vision abilities required by this job are: the ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and the ability to adjust focus

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, one is regularly required to sit and work at a desk. Walking to different departments and into the production area is occasionally required.
  • Work environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to a noise level consistent with a typical office environment. The associate will often be exposed to computer noises, telephone noises, and other employees conversing. Occasionally the associate is required to enter the production area where the noise level consists of heavy presses and machines operating.
