Job Description
Position Summary
While working as the Director of Creative Services, you will be tasked with fulfilling duties and performing tasks related to interacting with Graphic Designers and Prepress Technicians in order to provide information in response to inquiries about best practices and technical challenges and to set standard operating procedures for the department. The person in this position oversees and assists with performing the operational functions of the department, ensuring that assignments are completed accurately and efficiently, while elevating the level of internal communication and the skills of design team members. This person will directly oversee two supervisory employees (Art Director and Technical Graphics Manager) and three prepress technicians; they will indirectly supervise 4-8 designers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Join the management team to assist in company initiatives, participate in strategic restructure planning, software implementation and effective delivery of internal communication
  • Build a strong foundation to link and align graphics with the agency division
  • Oversee managers in strategic workload planning/scheduling of the teams to ensure maximum throughput, accuracy, balanced workloads, skill specific cross training and growth opportunities
  • Work with the managers to improve project review, art direction, proofing sessions and skill building classes
  • Partner with the Art Director towards driving increased collaboration and increased value of our design services
  • Oversee managers with time/attendance, coverage and evaluating performance
  • Driving workload to prepress team timely and manage project stage timelines
  • Recommend and implement software solutions to assist in workload tracking, team member effectiveness and higher-level reporting
  • Hold team accountable for set standard operating procedures, full effective work days and cultural standards
  • Assist managers with improving standard operating procedures for an optimized process
  • Evaluate and eliminate errors with active discussions/debriefs and coaching sessions
  • Improve customer service with setting standards for intro calls, job enhancements and serving as an active partner for project partnership and elevation of end product quality
  • Collaborate and align with other department managers to optimize the overall workflow process of all offering verticals and improve internal communication as well as project engineering prior to estimation
  • Knowledgeable to assist with engineering and troubleshooting the more challenging cross- platform projects
  • Guide, assist to set standards and actively participate in marketing initiatives and event planning as it directly relates to the overall image of Strategic Factory
  • Maintain quality standards by pausing, stopping or terminating jobs in production when required
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Work on job assignments in other departments as instructed


  • Navigate the production management software for basic searches and review of job information
  • Establish procedures for job filing and be able to interpret work orders; Understand the names and purpose of the various forms utilized by the department
  • Experience as independent manager with direct reports
  • Complete a variety of simple graphics jobs in the appropriate software title per our established procedures
  • Understand the production management reports provided by check-in
  • Understand how jobs are received into the graphics department and passed onto the prepress team
  • Participate actively in proofing sessions
  • Contribute to planning discussions for a variety of graphics production work Understand how the schedule for the department's workload is determined, and feel comfortable driving designers to complete their daily workload efficiently through and with the support of their direct managers
  • Be comfortable documenting and implementing SOPs for introductory topics such as file naming conventions and scheduling
  • Make educated decisions about time and attendance matters, independently approving overtime and timecard corrections
  • Improve projects that affect multiple departments and effectively set peer expectations through up-front contracting when working on improvement teams
